Weird news: Man allegedly slaps a camel at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom
Police arrested a 24-year-old man Sunday who allegedly scaled two zoo fences and slapped a camel on a dare at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, California.
Police say Christopher Allen was detained by park security but soon escaped and ran from the park with his friends, according to the Associated Press. Police finally caught up with Allen and arrested him and the alleged driver of his getaway car, Chrissy Thatcher.
Earlier reports that the man punched the camel were incorrect, Discovery Kingdom officials said. The man allegedly slapped the camel on its hindquarters.
Dakar, a 1½-year-old one-hump male camel, was upset but uninjured by the incident, said officials at the San Francisco Bay Area amusement park/marine park/zoo.
The 660-pound dromedary shares an enclosure with two adult Bactrian camels — a 17-year-old, 2,200-pound male named Jake and a 12-year-old, 1,600-pound female named Tian.
The amusement park plans to add additional security personnel around the camel exhibit to prevent copycat slappings.
